Day 1 – Start of a journey
Good bye New Zealand and hello adventure. Today is the first day of the trip and it’s very exciting. The day started of with an early wake up at 5:00am and then a rush to check everything was ready and to prepare to leave. Then at 6 o’clock we hoped in the car and headed for the airport. We made good time and arrived at the airport after about half a hour. We then checked in and went through security, be this time it was around 7 o’clock and we had 2 hours to kill as the plane left at 9 o’clock. So we went off to look at the shops. I brought a New Zealand sticker to put on my laptop case as I wanted to collect a sticker from each country we went to on the trip. By the time I had found a shop that sold stickers and had a bite to eat it was time to go. So we hopped hopped in line to board the plane. Once in the plane we took to the air and left New Zealand behind. The view out the window quickly became uninteresting so I looked through the movies, most of which were in Chinese as we were flying Cathy pacific. Btw Cathy Pacific is not a good airline has bad service and is not very comfortable/clean (4/10 would not recommend). But anyway I found some good movies one of which was Ex Machina, Ex Machine is a very good movie you should watch it. After watching a bunch of movies they severed lunch which was terrible Cathy Pacific food. By then we were only an hour and a half from Hong Kong so I watched a some family guy episodes. And we began the descent into Hong Kong. On the way in when we had broken through the clouds I looked out the window and saw that there were a lot of cargo ships and large orange streaks in the water, the water looked very polluted. We landed in Hong Kong at 3:30 am Hong Kong time (8:30pm back home). Once we were off the plane and into the air port we went through security and hoped on a train to travel to the other side of the airport it was at this point we noticed the crowds, or rather the lack of them. The huge airport was near empty, Auckland airport was more crowed! This is Hong Kong, should there not be huge crowd that make it hard to move? Once we were off the train we headed to another train which took us to a bus station where we took a bus to the hotel. Over this journey I noticed 2 things, 1 the lack of crowds and 2 how dirty every thing was, everything in Hong Kong is filthy. Lucky the hotel was fine, even if the beds were as hard as rock. We then rested in the hotel for a while before heading out to dinner the restaurant was nice but the service was bad. It took nearly half an hour for the food to arrive. When it did finally arrive it was ok, I had ordered spring chicken which was good the only problem was that parts of it were under cooked, but I was so hungry I did not mind. Once we had eaten we went up to the hotel room and lay down to sleep I feel asleep nearly instantaneous as at that point I had been awake for nearly 20 hours.
